Shoulda tracked this guy down for bearded stranger day! His sweet beard was dyed orange to watch the color of the cab he was driving. (many of toronto's cabs are green and orange). My fave shirt used to belong to my dad when he was my build (teen years to late-twenties). It says Alaska. I doubt he's been there. Haven't asked the story behind the tee. It's so old and thin in the right light you can see my shoulders through the material. Best. Shirt. Ever. As for the sign... Here's the story: In grade 11 (or thereabouts) I'm out all night drinking with Unky Kris. By the next morning my shirt's unwearable (maybe I puked on it or it was beer-soaked or something, can't remember) so Kris gives me a shirt to wear. I contend that the shirt he's offered me isn't "cool" enough, and requested that I be allowed to wear his ABSOLUTE FAVORITE shirt: a Ziggy shirt that said "BOGUS!" in a rainbow font. The shirt fit Kris like a glove, and was so well-worn that it felt like he was wearing nothing at all. If he wore it to school and some uneducated fool made fun of it ("Bogus" had not been a fashionable statement for some years) Kris (and this happened often) would staunchly defend the shirt. Kris caved and allowed me to borrow the shirt. Anyways, around this time I was often buying t-shirts from thrift stores. I would bring home about five shirts a week; everything from Alice Cooper tour tee's to cheesy political statements (like "Malcolm, Martin, Mandela, & Me: It's a black thang!") and my mom, who was still doing my laundry at the time, and often complained that I looked homeless, would take liberty to dispose of any new shirts she found objectionable as they went through the laundry. A nice Black Sabbath tee died in this way and... regrettably Unky Kris' "Bogus" t-shirt somehow drew my mother's distaste when it passed through her laundry cycle. Into the garbage went "Bogus", never to be seen again. Kris will never let me live it down, and I in turn will never let my mother live it down. Mother, where are all my great shirts? This photo will serve as a memorium to all lost great shirts ever. Please pay respects by leaving a list of loved and lost tee-shirts of your life.
