Posted: 8:13am These are Eternal Knots, ancient Tibetan symbols representing the inter-twining of wisdom and compassion and the "interplay and interaction of the opposing forces in the dualistic world of manifestation, leading to their union, and ultimately to harmony in the universe." They are a symbol of our union - our wedding bands - and a symbol of our endless love for each other.
May 23rd of last year held the Most Glorious Day of Splendor. Our marriage took place on a Wednesday, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains on a lake. We got married on the beach, surrounded by friends and family, and held the reception at the group campground where we stayed the night. Individual tents were set up around a larger tent in the middle where much feasting (it was a vegan potluck), dancing, and merrymaking ensued. Almost everyone who was invited, even the many out-of-towners, made it out despite it happening in the middle of the work week. We called it the Fusing of Love and Wonder and the Collision of the Cosmos. It was.
Me and Natalie have always created our own magic. We thrive off each others creativity and I have her to thank for every picture you see on here. We will continue to love and inspire each other for as long as these tattoos are on our fingers, until our bodies return to the earth.

Posted: 10:01am This is Cloud Cult.
This particular album, Aurora Borealis, was my first introduction to Cloud Cult, a band that has rejected major label record offers in favor of their own label, Earthology, in order to do everything as environmentally friendly as possible.
Earthology is based on a farm, heated and cooled by geothermal waste. They use vegetable based inks and 100% postconsumer recycled paper in the packaging of their CDs. It is a movement that many bands are becoming more and more aware of and interested in.
This isn't my favorite CD of theirs, but it's the image of the Northern Lights that floats in my mind when I think of them.
There are tracks from Advice from "Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus" that make me shiver and "The Meaning of 8," their latest, will make me cry before I even press play. It is not from sorrow, or grief, but simply from the pure, raw honesty and beauty that radiates from the music they create. Their sound carries my soul and penetrates right through to my heart. It is at times unbearable.
Truly, I haven't discovered another band like them. They are as human as it gets, with a message so profound that they give new meaning to the statement "actions speak louder than words."
I am thankful for the opportunity to present Cloud Cult to you today. Enjoy them, and be well.

Posted: 11:36am Fifthly, the book of the Void. By Void I mean that which has no beginning and no end. Attaining this principle means not attaining the principle. The Void is nothingness. By knowing things that exist, you can know that which does not exist. All this is the Way of the Void.
V. The Book of the Void
To attain the Way of strategy as a warrior you must study fully other martial arts and not deviate even a little from the Way of the warrior. With your spirit settled, accumulate practice day by day, and hour by hour. Polish the twofold spirit heart and mind, and sharpen the twofold gaze perception and sight. When your spirit is not in the least clouded, when the clouds of bewilderment clear away, there is the true void.
Know well this spirit, and with forthrightness as the foundation and the true spirit as the Way. Enact strategy broadly, correctly and openly. Then you will come to think of things in a wide sense and, taking the void as the Way, you will see the Way as void.
In the void is virtue, and no evil. Wisdom has existence, principle has existence, the Way has existence, spirit is nothingness.

Posted: 8:18am It is difficult to know yourself if you do not know others. From one thing, know ten thousand things. When you attain the Way of strategy there will not be one thing you cannot see.
IV. The Wind Book
People of the world get used to countering, evading and retreating as the normal thing. They become set in this habit, so can easily be paraded around by the enemy. The Way of strategy is straight and true. You must chase the enemy around and make him obey your spirit.
In my strategy, I bear my spirit and body straight, and cause the enemy to twist and bend. When your opponent is hurrying recklessly, you must act contrarily and keep calm. You must not be influenced by the opponent. The necessary spirit is to win by attacking the enemy when his spirit is warped. Train diligently to attain this spirit.
When you have fought many times you will easily be able to appraise the speed and position of the enemy's sword, and having mastery of the Way you will see the weight of his spirit. In strategy, fixing the eyes means gazing at the man's heart.
You must simply keep your spirit true to realize the virtue of strategy.

Examine your environment. Stand in the sun; that is, take up an attitude with the sun behind you. At night, if the enemy can be seen, keep the fire behind you.
Become the enemy. This means, think yourself into the enemy’s position. In the world people tend to think of a robber trapped in a house as a fortified enemy. However, if we think of “becoming the enemy”, we feel that the whole world is against us and that there is no escape. He who is shut inside is a pheasant. He who enters to arrest is a hawk. You must appreciate this.
When you have mastered the Way of strategy you can suddenly make your body like a rock, and ten thousand things cannot touch you.
This is the body of a rock. You will not be moved.

The gaze should be large and broad. This is the twofold gaze “Perception and Sight”. Perception is strong and sight weak.
In strategy it is important to see distant things as if they were close and to take a distanced view of close things. It is important in strategy to know the enemy’s sword and not to be distracted by insignificant movements of his sword. You must study this. The gaze is the same for single combat and for large-scale strategy.
It is necessary in strategy to be able to look to both sides without moving the eyeballs. You cannot master this ability quickly. Learn what is written here; use this gaze in everyday life and do not vary it whatever happens.

Posted: 9:05am If there is a Way involving the spirit of not being defeated, to help oneself and gain honour, it is the Way of strategy.
Strategy is the craft of the warrior. Commanders must enact the craft, and troopers should know this Way. There is no warrior in the world today who really understands the Way of strategy.
The Way is shown as five books concerning different aspects. These are Ground, Water, Fire, Tradition (Wind), and Void.
It is difficult to realize the true Way just through sword-fencing. Know the smallest things and the biggest things, the shallowest things and the deepest things. As if it were a straight road mapped out on the ground, the first book is called the Ground Book.
I. The Ground Book
This is the Way for men who want to learn this strategy:
1. Do not think dishonestly.
2. The Way is in training.
3. Become acquainted with every art.
4. Know the Ways of all professions.
5. Distinguish between gain and loss in worldly matters.
6. Develop intuitive judgment and understanding for everything.
7. Perceive those things which cannot be seen.
8. Pay attention even to trifles.
9. Do nothing which is of no use.
It is important to start by setting these broad principles in your heart, and train in the Way of strategy...By training you will be able to freely control your own body, conquer men with your body, and with sufficient training you will be able to beat ten men with your spirit. When you have reached this point, will it not mean that you are invincible?

Posted: 12:59pm This is a photo of a circular swingset and sandbox that I installed in the rafters of the warehouse that you can somewhat see behind me. The diameter of the apparatus (actually a trampoline frame) was 16 feet in diameter and supported 12 fully functional swings. A camera was positioned on the ceiling and a live feed was projected onto a screen where you could see everyone swinging toward the center. Interestingly enough, no one swung into each other.
This installation, called "play," marked the emergence of a new kind of "experience" or "performance" art that I create for a moment in time, as opposed to something that is to be bought or sold. In this sense, I very much believe in the notion of art as life, living as art. Though I still very much support all creative forms of expression.
