Two years ago during Whiskerino 2005 I trimmed and sculpted my beard a lot, so I was dedicated to not cutting any of my facial hair time this around. I love the results. Don't be a stranger folks. This is my second attempt at getting shamed. I tried 8 days ago and was unsuccessful so here I am trying yet again. I guess I have been sneaking under the radar unnoticed. I know its dirty, maybe this picture will clean things up. I again apologize to all my boys out in Joplin. And again I had to shave for a career fair and 3 interviews. My next goal in life...to be a part of Whiskerino 2009! I'll be back. Thanks for the good times.

And now I rest my knees. This has been too much fun. I feel my productivity will increase tenfold now that I wont be checking this site every 15 minutes. Its been really fun assembling a mural tour of Los Angeles. I feel I could've gone at least 2 more months with murals. It became an obsession for me and some of my friends. Many times I got texts about how someone just saw an awesome mural I need to jump in front off. My pictures even got me a spot writing for laist.com. They're letting em photograph and blog about murals around town. Wow my shirt is wrinkled I had a lot of fun at the mini LA throwdown. I'm still sad I couldn't make it out to Nashville. Goodbye Whiskerino. yes, in its most simple form it is merely a beard growing contest, but it has become so much more than that to me. and while i knew from the very start that i could make it to the last day, it is the journey here that is really what matters, not the end result. (although dont get me wrong. i love my beard.) coming into this thing knowing absolutely nobody, never would i have imagined that i would craft such friendships by merely uploading a photo and chatting through comments and on the talkback. i got to know some awesome people through whiskerino and can now say that i have over 200 new bearded friends. and while i became the stereotype of the asian dumpster diving red plaid flannel clothed googly eyes on chin wearing bearded guy, a lot of you got to know me as a lot more than just that, which means a lot to me. awesome people are hard to come by nowadays, and whiskerino is chock full of them. i can only hope that we all put an effort into continuing to be friends even after the beard. the beard has brought us together, and even with or without it, our brotherhood and community will not be separated. the past four months will be something that i will never forget and will tell stories about for ages to come. thank you all for being a part of this with me. God bless each and every one of you. thanks everyone for an amazing 4 months of bearded bliss. until next time.... BYE!

Two Goodbyes in One Day Today brings to me the close of not only Whiskerino, but also the official ending of my military life. Eight years ago, today, I officially enlisted into the Air Force, an institution that I never dreamed, or wished, that I would be apart of. How did, then, find myself enjoying my 21st birthday in basic training, you may be asking yourself. Itâ��s a story Iâ��ve told several times, but I thought maybe it is appropriate to share this story once more. The new millennium rang in for me in the Everglades, surrounded by 85,000 hippies/ pseudo-hippies. I saw Phish that night play an amazing 8 hour set, ending with the rising sun. This time in my life was about exploration for the sake of exploration. I was a Jr., enrolled at the University of Alabama, and was burnt out. When I returned to my apartment, I found it relatively empty, without furniture, without instruments, without stereo, and with a note from my family explaining that I had been â��moved homeâ��. â��Homeâ�� was in rural Alabama, 2 hours North of Tuscaloosa, Sulligent. After a month of arguments and sobriety I decided that I needed to leave behind this life. It was around 5 or 6 p.m., I believe, when I realized that it was my 21st birthday. I kept it to myself. I began to think that I had made the greatest mistake of my life. I tried to imagine the day when I would be free of the Air Force, but really couldnâ��t. Eight years seemed something like a lifetime, or at least the remainder of my youth. I thought about all of the mistakes I had made, which lead me to where I was, isolated from everyone Iâ��ve ever known. Eventually, I began to realize that I had finally made a decent decision. I had found some discipline that allowed me to follow through with my good intensions. I found myself once again enrolled in school, but actually studying. I became an avid reader. Before I enlisted I had only read a handful of books. I began writing fiction and music. I found that I didnâ��t need a myriad of psycho stimulants and hallucinogenics to lose my ego. I was able to discover myself while I created myself. Now, eight years later I realize that Iâ��m much better for the years I spent in the military. I also realize that I was very fortunate during my tenure. I spent the majority of my active duty perched 4 flights high in a massive building which overlooked the Atlantic Ocean through a 300 foot wide window. This time also helped me become mature enough to be able to connect with the love of my life, my wife. I met her a few months after returning to Alabama. We fell in love immediately and married 9 months later. Now it is she that is helping me grow. And unlike the institution of the Air Force, Iâ��ve never wanted to stray from her. I love you Littles. Whiskerino was a great experience. Thanks, to everyone for making it what it is.

Strange, thirty years ago this stuff fit just fine! The last four months have been a blast, despite the occasional challenges of being a "suit" with a rather unorthodox appearance in the work place. I wasn't able to participate this time nearly as much as I would have like, either in photos or within the community, because of all of my commitments in the real world. For that, I am sorry. None the less, I had to finish what I started, and here we are at the end. I could not stand the thought of being shamed. I had to convince my director that my current role needed a beard or I would have been out in January. Having succeeded in that, I must remain bearded for at least 3 more weeks. May we meet again in the year of our Lord, two thousand and nine.

This has been one of the Worst weeks of my life. 1: Phy & Pol Tests. 2: Eng & Pol Papers due. 3: Lack of sleep due to studying and papers. 4: Lady Friend Yelled at me. 5: Whiskerino is ending. With Zero King Beards Under My belt. 6: Found out in my Art class that Im not good at Art. 7: They ran out of my Fav coffee yesterday 8: And seriously A friend from back home died. He was a Great guy! really didnt hit me until i looked at some photos last night. Life at the moment is frustrating, and Hard. God is Good. this about sums things up. whiskerino, i'm sorry. i feel like i let you down. i was looking forward to this thing like you wouldn't believe, and for any number of reasons, just couldn't keep up like i wanted to. that said, i have been exceedingly blessed to forge some great friendships through the magic of Yewknee Brand Facial Hair Extravaganzasâ�¢, and you can definitely expect to see more of me in the future, hopefully in a more involved capacity.

Day 121. This Is Only The Beginning. The Whiskerino ends tonight (midnight PST) but it is far from over. I think it is safe to say that this event has incurred an overwhelming response of friendship amongst so many of us. The beard was a physical bond between us all but things run deeper than that now. i really haven't had time to look at the site let alone make much of a contribution myself, but whenever i've browsed yr beards i've been impressed and entertained. i've grown many beards, a few longer than the current manifestation, but i've always done at least some trimming. blade nor buzzer has touched my face these past months and i have truly learned the virtue of letting the neck hairs grow freely. the slight awkwardness early on is more than made up for by the latter glory. what i'm try to say is, thanks. anyone growing on? i am.

In loving memory of Eric Myers. For those you don't know me or didn't read Corey's post yesterday. My best friend who was only 26, passed away yesterday morning because of an enlarged heart. Its very ironic that his best quality would be the thing that kills him. Please remember his family and his friends in your thoughts and prayers. He was a very special person and i am better for the time i got to spend with him it was just too damn short. I haven't shaved and don't plan on it until Friday morning for the funeral. This is an older picture but i didn't have anything available more recent. This will be my last post for whiskerino. This has been so much fun. And i thought only fitting to share my last post with Eric. He wanted to join but couldn't grow out the beard because of his job.

I decided that, for my final Whiskerino photo, I'd do two things: 1) return to the mirror shot I used on the first night and 2) fluff my beard to full width. I never thought I'd get this much growth in four months --- and I've had a beard for the last five-plus years. 1 ... lift off, little beard.

Sometimes the beard gets the better of a man. This Whiskerino my beard was at war with itself; much like my life. Its been a very difficult Whiskerino for me this year (as it has been for a few of you) and without this community, I'd likely seclude myself to a room, wearing some costumer, pretending everything was fine (...wait ...). To quote: "4 months is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable Beardos. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like. Goodbye Whiskerino 2007 ======================= This image is an encapsulation of many aspects of my Whiskerino experience. Most of my shots were taken in this room. However, I never was able to showcase the best feature of the room, which is glowing green. My wife, Rose, is owed quite a debt of gratitude for loving on me beard for the better part of four months. Two Thumbs Up Midget Jump It has been a long journey to come so far. I would really want to thank Mackle for this opportunity and every other Whisker on this website. I'm so glad I'm not the only crazy guy who loves beards and photography. It has been amazing! Some people love it, some people hate it. I kept growing it for myself and for the Whiskerino brotherhood. I would really like to try and grow more for one year but because of my work practicum I need to shave in two months. So I think that tomorrow it's the perfect opportunity for me to give my beard a nice trim. I'm not sure if I will be able to participate in 'Moustache May' but I will definitely be back in Whiskerino 2009. Next year when I will be in the US, I hope I can pay legendary Nashville a visit. While my participation this year was lacking, I still had a blast. My life has been busier than ever this time around. I got engaged, finishing up college, securing a job, and playing in a band. Whiskerino has helped me keep a good spirit through it all. I would take a break from papers just to look at some of the photos and have a good laugh.
