i really like living in Taiwan, but among the things i dislike: a. you can't leave your garbage by the road. you have to wait for the truck and toss it in yourself. b. the stray dogs. i have been chased both while riding my scooter and while jogging. c. the lack of indoor heating. i'm from Buffalo by way of Connecticut, so i'm used to winters much colder than i'm experiencing here. but i've never driven a scooter (much less everyday) and i've never been without heating. this thing provides more light than heat, and it is all we have. p.s. good luck to all as we reach the home strech! i'll try to post (much) more often.]]> Fri, 15 Feb 2008 03:30:37 -0800 http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/phillip/18249/ http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/phillip/17614/

at Pu Tian Temple, Guqi Mountain, Hsinchu, Taiwan really interesting place. some guy seems to have built this temple in the early 70s out of some mix of religious devotion/desire to display his massive personal collection of statues, etc. the collection ranged from very impressive (a full sized bed carved out of jade, detailed sprawling models depicting Taiwanese life, a chair with tiger heads for arms, a mounted giraffe head complete with neck) to entertainingly ridiculous (little tables with little chairs shaped liked shoes, a little statue of liberty). what a legacy this man left for himself. oh the wonders of asia.]]> Sat, 19 Jan 2008 08:24:09 -0800 http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/phillip/14660/ http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/phillip/13666/
