This is it for me folks, I am away Thursday 06:00 (GMT) on a canoe-camping trip and so no internet connection in the wilds of Scotland. I have greatly enjoyed Wiskerino 2007, and most of the shots during the 120 days have been awesome. I am keeping the beard for definite, so hopefully I will see you all in 2009. 'A short Walk in the Hindu Kush' by Eric Newby This has come from the favourite music theme earlier. I was thinking what was my favourite book and it has to be this. Eric Newby was in the Black Watch and Special Boat Service in WW2, and was a POW for 3 yrs, he then went to work in womens fashion after the war until 1956. It was then that he made his trip into Nuristan (currently Afghanistan and Pakistan) and wrote this book. This book, and his other works, have been a big inspiration to me in trying new things and travelling and it is my aim to follow his footsteps in this book one-day. He is an excellent writer and very very funny. Recent one of me canoeing the new boat down a mild river. Damn but its shallow. I need the front airbag as the canoe has no natural bouyancy and if I go over the canoe sinks! "5 Day Beer" Day 8. Well the world tour did promise a dark ale and they don't come much darker than this. Today's beer of choice is Dark Island, made on the Orkney Isles this dark 4.6% ale is a real head turner. A very very malty taste that is reminiscent of of eating malt extract. 5000 years in the making and well worth it! A really smooth taste though and quite fruity. HAKA tee from Global Rugby (i think). Its the Haka that the All Blacks perform before starting a rugby game. Its a mauri dance that is used for many reasons such as war, greeting people or to celebrate a great occasion. This is one of the iconic things about world rugby form one of the best teams (not as good as England obviously!). "5 Day Beer" Day 6. Well the world tour went out to the loacl pool bar and got slaughtered so I was not able to post any pics, or at least anything that wasn't really blurred! Day 7. To recover from the previous night went to play some golf on the local municipal course. To celebrate this tonights beer of choice is St Andrews Ale from Belhaven. I haven't had this before but its quite nice, its a medium ale @ 4.1%, not an all-night beer but good lunch or evening starter beer. "5 Day Beer" Day 5. Well the last day has seen the return of the world tour to Scotland. I haven't previewed any Scottish beer on this site so todays Beer of choice comes form Bonnie Scotland. Caledonian 80 Shilling somes form Edinburgh and is a very tasty dark beer, at 4.1% it is also an enjoyable evening long drink. I would say this is in my top 5 all time beers, and my favourite of this 5 day tour. I hope you enjoyed the ride. A wonderful light beer, at 5.0% its not too strong but has a good rounded after feel. Crisp taste as well. I think this might be a popular one. Only one day left! Where will they go? "5 day beer" Day 3. Well the tour has moved on from Belgium, and has actually traveled to the far east.. Todays beer of choice is Tsingtao. A Chinese beer made from Malt, rice and hops, it is 4.7%. A very light beer that is an excellent light drink. Plus it has a very crisp taste that is refreshing and puts it heads above major western lagers. We are in the far east, will we remain here?
