I miss you guys. When I first started this trip with you all, I was uncertain how it would turn out. After Bryce's seizure I was certain I was dealing with a great group of people, but still a little weary. Now that I've trekked over 3000 miles to visit with and meet you all in person, I can very easily say it was one of the best decisions I've made in my life, to participate in this group. I had a blast and it was wonderful meeting each of you. I regret not spending more time with each of you and getting to know you all well, but life is life and we meet and connect with the people whom we are meant to. I made some fast friends this weekend, and talked and laughed with a lot of great people. I met wives, friends, girlfriends, fiancees and loved ones of just about everyone and I forgot all your real names. Sorry about that, my brain overloaded. I love you all and I miss each of you, and for you I let loose this single tear. We've got a few more days online here growing and showing, but after this weekend, it's just not the same. So in my mind I don't really feel like I look similar to any celebrity. I have been compared to both Phillip Seymour Hoffman (twister version) and Brendan Gleeson (in braveheart), both are a bit insulting, but in some instances understandable. According to The Celebrity Face Recognition software, I'm a 74% match to Anna Kournikova, and on seven different pictures I was at least a 60% match to Jensen Ackles (from supernatural and the Gilmore Girls) Again I don't see any of these. So you get to just see my regular non celeb face and enjoy it. So yeah, my tattoo occurs below frame so I can't show it and stay in theme. So Amy agreed to show hers. It's 8 years old, she got in in AZ after the birth of our first son, it represents him to her. She called him her little tadpole. I drew the original artwork and the Tattoo lady did a great job of recreating it for this tattoo. Today is Bryce's 6th birthday, I'm posting early and probably won't be back on today until late if at all. Bryce has been doing very well, and has no seizures since the first. The doctors are leaning towards fluke, but like with anything else, as House teaches us, there are no guarantees and diagnosis are mostly educated guesswork at best. We pray and keep our fingers crossed everyday. And still jump whenever he makes the tiniest sound in his sleep, real on edge. But getting better. So I've been going through some hard introspective times in my life recently, what with the weight loss and such. Coming to terms with who I really am and who I was meant to be. I was watching Conan one morning (I TIVO) and he introduced the musical guest, The Avett Brothers. I'm very rough on artists I've never heard before, you have about 10 seconds to hook me in. When I heard the Banjo beginning of Paranoia in B Major. I knew something amazing was about to happen. I put down my remote control. I leaned forward and was moved to tears. I'd never been affected by a band in this way. As soon as the song ended, I rewound and played it again. Twice more and I realized buying the album would be a better use of my time. I scoured the net. The album was not out yet. It was coming though. I found every free mp3 I could to satiate my need to hear them until the album was released. And then I discovered, they weren't new, they'd already put out a few records, I found several on itunes and bought them up. When Emotionalism was released I bought it without hesitation before I did anything else for the day. I have never listened to a single album as many times as I have Emotionalism. I've never loved a band as much as this one. I know that feeling. The one that teenagers speak of when they really connect with the lyrics or voice of a popular band. That feeling that the band wrote those songs for them. But that fades, as I'm an adult and not naive. But the feeling is still there under the surface. The song Weight of Lies, actually changed my life in sweeping ways I don't completely understand yet. If I ever get to meet Seth, Scott or Bob I will thank them. The posters behind me came from my Buddy and fellow Whiskerino KO. Thanks Kevin. I hung them temporarily for this shot, they are actually in queue to be framed proper to hang on the south wall of my office. I love these posters. Quick fact: I've never been to a concert, even though I really love all types of music. I've been thinking. So we grow beards as a jab to the man. As a way to say hey, I'm my own man, I can do what I like with my face. And this is awesome! Amazing. It's liberating. But, then it dawned on me. Growing a beard in spite of the man, with the caveat that we cannot shave for 120 days, or social shame will befall us. Is this not the exact opposite of why we started growing in the first place? To make our own choice? In either situation I have no choice, but allow others to dictate what appears on my face. Sure one can be mandatory and the other is not. But both consequences are fear based. If I grow a beard against the wishes of "The Man" I may lose a job or respect. If I shave my whiskerino beard, I lose face and possibly respect even if it's just from a relatively small group. In both situations I'm allowing someone other than myself to decide for me, what should be on my face. All that said. The beard is staying. I got three challenges yesterday, well four. But only three I could actually do. One required motion which as far as I know is not possible in a still image, so sorry jnon. I completed, Keifel's shirtless challenge here on whiskerino. In alternates, I completed KO's challenge for an outdoor pic, in spades. CLAME below for the whole set of alternates. Also I tried to make a snowman as large as myself for Chris, but new powder doesn't so much cooperate in that type of endeavor, so instead, and I hope it is just as good I made a snow angel as large as myself. Yesterday Mackle asked me why I use Flickr for my alternates and Whiskerino for the consistent pics. I told him it was because I didn't want to ruin the awesome that is my archive here. Which is true, but part of it is that I like to finish what I start. I like to see things through. I enjoy making people stare in awe at the discipline that is me. Then again there is a part of me that wishes I had done it the opposite way, so that I could be a bigger part of the community here. Because even though I take an alternate on every theme day and occasionally on non-theme days, because I care about this community and want to be a part of it, hardly anyone sees them 'cause people don't click through to my consistent pictures any more. It's a been there done that situation and I regret it. No idea why I'm still up, probably the excitement of watching the boys enjoy Christmas, the way I did when I was a young. Should do this upload now, or else I might not get a chance in the morning. I love Christmas, it's my favorite holiday of all, and it's even better now that I have my own sons to pass the magic of the holiday onto. I got 1 hour of sleep last night. When I was heading to bed, I heard my 5 year old making noises like he was having a bad dream, I went in to check on him and discovered he was having a seizure in his sleep. This image will never leave my head, I see it when I close my eyes, my little boy just helpless. He went in the ambulance with his mom, they spent the night in the ER. He had a CT Scan this morning, and it appears his brain has a problem, and they are sending him to the hospital in city for an MRI. I'm scared to death. My baby boy is in trouble, and I can't help him.
