This is not a plea for sympathy, but rather an apology to Whiskerino for my decreased involvement, my absence from the talkback (except to harrass Justie) and my lack of commenting on photos. This also serves as a personal reminder of what I've had to do lately and still manage to only partially go crazy. So here's a quick recap of some of what I've had to do since Nov. 1st, the beginning of Whiskerino: Work As my day job I work for a gallery that has four locations, three in Scottsdale and one in Tucson, with roster of roughly 80 artists and a staff of 14. Our busy season is from about end of October until mid-April, due to winter residents and tourism. This is also the time where we have most of our artist solo and group shows. My tasks include, but certainly not limited to, the following: - Inventory over 390 pieces of new work, each requiring: - create a computer record in the database - photograph, edit and enter photo of piece - add hardware for hanging - hang paintings in all galleries - hang art shows, including a 14' x 5' grid of 44 6"x6" pieces - deliver & install sold & on-approval pieces to clients - transfer artwork to/from our other galleries - pick up/drop off work at the framer's - coordinate database upgrade w/ software programmers - create and send email invitations to client database - create artist & location-specific mailing lists - act as contact between artists and gallery - de facto gallery computer/network tech - assign & monitor tasks for the part-time assistants Painting I'm in a group show in less than a week, so I've been franticly trying to get paintings completed for that. -finished: - 60" x 72" - 60" x 48" - 6" x 6" - 3" x 3" -in progress - 60" x 72" - 36" x 72" - 36" x 48" (2) - 24" x 48" (2) - 24" x 36" (2) - 12" x 12" (4) Other - family obligations/get-togethers/major events - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve - the birth of my niece - (very few) social gatherings (funkfinger, joebeard) - creating a print for the Whiskerino Bazaar - orginization, cleaning - donating unwanted clothing and household items - filing and shredding old financial papers - general boxing up, arranging, discarding - reading -Jack London "Call of the Wild" -Nikolai Gogol "Diary of a Madman and Other Stories" -Mark Twain "The Devil's Racetrack - Dark Writings" - doctor visits, panic attacks, insane asylum escapes 9-12 hour workdays, up til 3am every night painting - I'm exhausted.]]> Fri, 04 Jan 2008 18:54:55 -0800 http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/haleryan/12433/ http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/haleryan/12286/
