After much thought I've decided to reupload my picture today. I used to put a lot of stock into music that I loved but these days, with the advent of the MP3 and my own personal hoarding nature, it's more about how MUCH I have rather than WHAT I have. So, rather than show off my huge MP3 collection which probably won't impress any of you, I'm going to really dig deep and post a disc which affects me to this day, Mineral's "EndSerenading". I had been reading about Mineral for quite a while before I got a chance to listen to them, but once I did I was hooked. I had never really heard music this emotional before, and at that point in my life, I really needed music that was genuine, and real, and heartfelt. Mineral, and specifically EndSerenading was all of those and more. With beautifully honest and poetic lyrics, always skirting the line between Christian and non, Mineral led the way for a new crop of Emo bands like Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, and others. Since I work during the day, and it's dark when I leave for work, AND when I come home, I don't get a chance to play outside with Noelle that often. But when we do, it's always fun. On saturday mornings, I like to take her to the park and play, and run, and slide while Mommy gets some sleep. Because I'm a daddy, I tend to be a little more roughhouse with Noelle...I think she enjoys it though. I put her on my shoulders, or throw her around on our king-sized bed. Sometimes I'll spin her WAY high in the air and catch her on the way down (I've learned that you ALWAYS have to catch them). Other times we just play puzzles, or draw, or have the obligatory tea parties (she got a tea set for Christmas). Whatever we do, she puts her whole heart into it. It's easy for grownups to be a little more reserved about things, but kids are just passionate about everything. They feel the same about frozen peas (one of Noelle's favorite foods) as they do about Daddy walking in the door. And it's the best feeling in the world to help foster that attitude of passion. Playing is one of those things that Noelle just loves to do...I just hope that I can help her keep her childlike outlook as long as possible. After bathtime I get Noelle all dried off, diapered, and dressed in snazzy pajamas (these are from Old Navy). We spend a few minutes "picking apples" from the mural on her wall (http://www.whiskerino.org/2007/creole/8287/), we fight over putting on socks for bedtime, we yell for our "boys" (our dogs Nacho and Duncan), and then finally it's time for a book. We have a wide variety of books that Noelle likes to read. From mother goose, to books about Goldilocks, to the one pictured. Noelle just LOVES books (which makes Daddy seriously happy). She loves asking questions about the characters in books, I like asking her what things ARE in books. After we're done reading whatever book she's picked out, we lay down together on the daybed in her room and talk for a little bit. We discuss what she did that day, what she wants to do tomorrow, or whatever thought happens to flit into her head. Then it's bedtime and time to lay down in her crib for a good night's sleep. Noelle has never been all that interested in sleeping...except for a brief 2 month period of time, she's woken up at least ONCE per night for her entire life. Now luckily the last 8 or 9 months, she's woken up before we go to bed so at worst it's just an inconvenience. Because Mommy stays home with Noelle during the day, Daddy gets morning and evening duty. So, as part of the bedtime ritual, she takes a bath every night. As Noelle is finishing up her dinner, I go run the water for bathtime. She gets out of her chair and we spend the obligatory few minutes playing the "I don't WANT to take a bath" game. Eventually I cajole her into the bathroom by asking her to check the water for me, or asking her if she needs to go potty. I toss her into the bathtub and we enjoy a fun-filled 5-10 minutes of splashing, and scrubbing, and soaking the floor. Each morning around 7am I hear the pitiful sounds of a little girl wanting her Daddy. "Daddy? You out there?" I walk in and talk with her for a few minutes while she's in her crib. Then I get her changed and make her breakfast. She usually has some combination of toast, waffles, dry cereal, fruit, or something along those lines. I on the other hand have any food that I can find in the fridge. This morning was taco salad....yumm! If we get done with breakfast before I leave for work, we might go into the living room and "watch a show".
