Whiskerino `07 - `08: Success
posted: February 29th, 2008
"Better to be a part of something small, than to just observe something big."
350+ Competitors entered, 237 will leave.
There is no sufficient way to explain the magic that took place from Nov. 20th - Feb. 29th. Over 20,000 images were posted; almost 200,000 comments in just 121 days. More importantly, friendships were created and strengthened. And lastly, beards were grown.
The only downside to Whiskerino 2007 is that it must come to an end. At midnight PST the site will close and this experience will be archived into Internet history. Fortunately, the end of one thing is the beginning of another. If you would like to continue on a version of this journey, please join up at
whiskerino.org/talk.
On a personal note, know that I could never have imagined how overwhelmingly fantastic this whole thing has been for me. I honestly am physically and emotionally changed by the whole experience.
I think I speak for everyone, directed to everyone else, when I say 'Thank You.' Community involvement is the key to success of Whiskerino and we have it in droves.
If nothing else, know that you have been a part of something of small; far better than observing something huge.
Thank you and good luck in all of your endeavours. We will, hopefully, be in touch.
Throwdown Wrap Up
posted: February 27th, 2008
It goes without saying that the 2008 North American Free Beard Agreement Whiskerino
Throwdown was a total onslaught of success. I'm not even sure what the final headcount on attending members was but it was
a lot. Meeting everyone after four months of growing was an incredible experience for all and I think I speak for everyone, to everyone else, when I say "Thank You." We all deserve it.
There is no way to properly summarize the experience purely through internet means but it would be worth your time to check out the following:
Truly the Throwdown is not an event that can be captured in words (nor is Whiskerino in general).
Two days remain.
February Theme Schedule
posted: January 31st, 2008
One month to go! This is where Whiskerino truly becomes an endurance challenge. Everyone is doing a fantastic job. I've tried to keep the themes a bit more at bay this month but remember that they are always optional and here for your inspiration. So, without further ado:
February 1st
Emo 'Myspace' Photo - the stereotypical "MySpace photo" - looking up at camera over your head, hair in eyes.
February 2nd
Sports - you asked for it, here it is! Do something sporty for the day.
February 3rd
No Theme
February 4th
Mugshot Day - it's a Whiskerino
classic. Two vertical photos allowed.
February 5th
Personal Challenge - Day 1 - Issue challenges to other Whiskerino participants of something you'd like to see them do for Day 2. Your photo today can be related to the theme of what
you would like to do for the challenge.
February 6th
Personal Challenge - Day 2 - Pick a challenge that was issued to you and fulfill it to the best of your ability.
February 7th
Reflection Day - Find a reflective surface and capture yourself, photographically, in the surface.
February 8th

February 9th

February 10th

February 11th
Charades - pick a phrase, song title or movie title and portray it in your pic. For example, "bite the bullet" would be easy enough to portray to photo form but dangerous and not recommended. David Bean did several song title images, seen
here,
here and
here.
February 12th
Your Favorite Music - Share your favorite artist or album and why it is that you feel the way you do about them.
February 13th
No Theme
February 14th
They Deal With This - take your pic with someone who has had to deal with your hairy face for the last 3 and a half months. It doesn't have to be a wife / girlfriend / boyfriend; just someone that has endured the growth.
February 15th
Tattoos - despite having an
unofficial run of it already, show off your tattoo's if you've got them. If not, get one or draw one on.
February 16th
No Theme
February 17th
Celebrity Beard - do you look like a Celebrity? do you think you could mimick one? Show us your best impersonation.
February 18th
On My Person - empty your pockets and/or bag to show us what you carry with you on a regular basis. Remember to keep the beard in the pic.
February 19th
JNonfiction - If you aren't familiar with the works of
jnonfiction you just aren't paying attention. Be crafty and create your own version of his style of tribute.
February 20th
Behind The Beard - assuming you've got the beard girth, take a shot with your back to the camera. Examples:
here,
here and
here.
February 21st
Wild Beard - stop grooming and taming that beast on your face and let it spring forth in all its bearded fury.
February 22nd
No Theme - Throwdown Begins
February 23rd
No Theme - Throwdown Continues
February 24th
No Theme - Throwdown Wraps up
February 25th
No Theme - use this time to get any self-appointed Whiskerino tasks completed.

February 27th

February 28th
Clamebute - Choose a previously posted image from anywhere in the current archives and recreate / tribute it. Images you thought were robbed of King Beard are a good place to start.
February 29th
Goodbye - this is it, the final day. Goodbye Whiskerino. Maybe we'll meet again in 2009.
The Throwdown Approaches
posted: January 21st, 2008
The final stretch of Whiskerino fast approaches; which means that the final Throwdown celebration is well on its way. For those that haven't heard, it is the weekend of Feb 22nd - 24th in Nashville, TN. Details are still being ironed out and will be announced soon but mark your calendars if you have not already.
Ell Dub is gathering up the list of folks coming in from out of town that may want to stay in a central location. So, please, contact him (drop him a message on his profile) and let him know that you'll be attending and would like to get in on a hotel package.
There will be a new Throwdown page on the site before weeks end where you can officially RSVP but Ell Dub has been kind enough to help sort out all these hotel plans, so please do contact him.

Two more meetups in the works and this time it's not for Nashville participants!
Establishment is putting together a Throwdown for those of you in the UK (or those of you looking to travel to the UK real soon). He's got Glasgow in his sights and would love to hear from you if you're down to participate. Email him: ronniebrown (at) gmail (dot) com for details!
